Fantasy League Favourites - Gameweek 9
In what is becoming a weekly feature, let’s check out a few players who you should think about bringing into your side this week. Since there are a few players who are owned by large percentages of fantasy league managers out there, we’ll try not to include the more obvious choices in our starting 11…
1. Van der Sar (Man Utd)
United are on a strong run right now and visit Everton, who are yet to win at home this season. At 5.9m, he’s the cheapest of the Big 4 regular goalkeepers, so well worth picking up.
2. Kompany (Man City)
Although Man City do not seem to have the sturdiest defence, their game this week against Stoke brings the promise of a clean sheet. Add that to the fact that Kompany is playing in the midfield most weeks, then at 5.7m he seems a very attractive prospect.
3. Garrido (Man City)
As mentioned above, City defenders are looking good this week, and Garrido seems to be enjoying a bit of an extended run in the team at the expense of Michael Ball right now. 4.3m is a steal because he occasionally takes offensive free-kicks as well.
4. Samba (Blackburn)
With a goal to his name already this season, Samba clearly provides a bit of a threat going forward. Combine that with the fact that Blackburn play the unlucky Boro at home this week, and you might be looking at quite a few points here.
5. Agger (Liverpool)
A bit of a strange choice, I know, as Liverpool are up against the free-scoring Chelsea this week, but at 5.9m Agger still provides very good value in the long run. You just get the feeling that Benitez will go to Stamford Bridge not wanting to concede, so a goalless draw is not out of the question here.
6. Richardson (Sunderland)
We saw last week how unlucky Richardson was not to get a goal, and he’ll be looking to get on the scoresheet this week against Newcastle, who don’t have the best defence around. In the smaller pond that is Sunderland, Richardson is a lot more likely to pick up regular points that he ever was at Man Utd, and 6.0m is a good deal for him.
7. Young (Aston Villa)
He is surprisingly not as popular as Arteta and Wright-Phillips who are in the same price range, but Ashley Young is as consistent as you will get in this game. Villa had an off-week offensively last week, but get him in this week at 8.6m, because most of their goals come from his set-pieces.
8. Kapo (Wigan)
With Valencia suspended, Wigan will look to Palacios and Kapo for their creative spark. Zaki is banging in the goals up front, but he is getting great service from his midfield, so Kapo is a steal at 5.1m.
9. Wright-Phillips
Wright-Phillips has been relatively quiet the last few weeks, after picking up some massive gameweeks just prior to that. So the point is, he looks due for a good week against the new boys, Stoke, and he’ll cost you 8.3m. Man City Players, in general, look a good bet this week.
10. Rooney (Man Utd)
You can’t look much further than Rooney in attack these days as he’s been in red-hot form. 26 points in the last two games have seen him shoot up the charts. He’s definitely not cheap at 11.1m, but if you have the cash available, then join the ride!
11. Davies (Bolton)
He’s got four goals so far this season in a pretty poor Bolton side, so he’s very good value for money at 6.0m. They visit Spurs this week, who of course aren’t having the best of times, so there’s every opportunity for him to test their shaky defence.
So there you have it - Plenty of choices for your transfers this week. Still early days, but now is the time to pick up all the points you can so you can lay a good foundation for the rest of the season.
